Ranger (朗杰, “the App”) is your context training engine for iPhone, iPad, and Mac, with audio and video language-learning capabilities. Users can import their own audio, video, and subtitles for playback, intensive listening, repetition, shadowing, recording comparison, and learning-progress management.

Ranger does not currently operate a proprietary cloud service for collecting user media and does not sell personal information.
2. Information We Process
2.1 Media, subtitles, and learning content
When users import, browse, or play content through files, folders, system sharing, Finder, Files, system file providers, WebDAV, AList, Quark Drive, or 115 Drive, Ranger may process audio, video, and subtitle files; file names, folder structure, duration, media type, subtitle timing, and subtitle text; and user edits, favorites, tags, notes, mastery status, review dates, playback positions, learning records, extensive-listening queues, review queues, and context cards.
Locally imported media is normally stored in the App’s local directory. Ranger does not automatically upload local files merely because they are imported. Remote browsing, playback, downloading, or subtitle lookup communicates with the service selected by the user and is subject to that service’s policies.
2.2 Local recordings and speech recognition
The App uses the microphone or system speech-recognition capability only when the user actively starts a shadowing recording, subtitle generation, or recognition task. Recordings are normally stored temporarily for practice and playback. The current implementation prefers on-device recognition and does not automatically switch to Ranger-operated cloud recognition. Structured results such as recognized text, scores, matched-word counts, rhythm scores, practice time, and recording references may be stored locally. Recording files are not included in the iCloud learning snapshot.
2.3 iCloud learning sync
When enabled, Ranger uses Apple’s iCloud Key-Value Storage for structured learning data and playback preferences, including favorites, learning status, statistics, context cards, review dates, and playback preferences. It does not sync local audio, video, subtitles, recordings, WebDAV/AList passwords, Quark cookies or refresh tokens, 115 cookies, or TMDB API keys. The current version enables sync by default; users can disable it under Settings → Sync & Data. Apple’s iCloud terms and privacy policy also apply.
2.4 Remote-drive connections
For user-configured remote sources, Ranger may process connection URLs, hosts, ports, paths, usernames, connection status, remote file names, directory information, and playback URLs. WebDAV and AList are used for user-selected remote browsing, playback, downloading, or subtitle reading. QDAV/Quark mounts may be used as read-only WebDAV connections; Ranger does not perform cloud writes through that path. Experimental direct Quark and 115 entry points may send cookies, refresh tokens, device identifiers, temporary access tokens, and playback requests to the relevant service. Credentials are stored in the system Keychain, not ordinary settings or iCloud.
2.5 TMDB metadata matching
When users actively request show matching, Ranger may send inferred show titles, episode titles, and language parameters to TMDB for show and episode metadata, descriptions, posters, and still images. Audio, video, recordings, and subtitle files are not uploaded to TMDB. Users may choose not to use this feature.
2.6 Offline cache
When users choose offline download, remote media and same-directory subtitles are stored in the App cache with file indexes and remote-resource references. Cookies and passwords are not included in the cache.
2.7 Settings and diagnostics
Ranger may store playback, subtitle, theme, language, learning-mode, cache, and other settings locally. The current version has no advertising SDK, behavioral advertising SDK, or third-party analytics platform and does not operate a Ranger account system.
3. How We Use Information
- Open, play, pause, seek, and adjust user-selected media;
- Match, display, edit, and generate subtitles;
- Provide intensive listening, dictation, shadowing, recording comparison, scoring, and review scheduling;
- Save user-created favorites, notes, tags, learning status, and playback settings;
- Synchronize structured learning data through iCloud after the user enables sync;
- Send requests to TMDB, WebDAV, AList, Quark, or 115 when the user actively uses those features;
- Diagnose playback, import, subtitle, cache, or network failures.
4. System Permissions
Ranger may request file and folder access, network and local-network access, microphone, speech recognition, and iCloud access. The microphone and speech recognition are used only for user-initiated practice or recognition. The current version does not use or request the camera.
5. Sharing and Third-Party Services
Except for user-selected WebDAV/AList, Quark, 115, TMDB, and iCloud services, we do not sell, rent, or proactively disclose personal information. Ranger does not use imported media to train its own AI models or show it to other users. Third parties may process requests, account information, logs, cookies, IP addresses, or network metadata under their own policies.
6. Retention and Deletion
Users can delete local media, subtitles, recordings, and cache; disable iCloud sync; remove or reconfigure remote connections; clear offline media and cached subtitles; or uninstall Ranger to remove sandbox data. Data already synchronized to iCloud may be retained by Apple under its service rules. Removing a Ranger reference does not necessarily delete an original file or a third-party copy.
7. Security
We use app sandbox storage, the system Keychain for remote credentials, exclusion of credentials from iCloud learning snapshots, and on-device speech recognition where possible. No network transmission or electronic storage is absolutely secure. Users should protect device passcodes, Apple Accounts, third-party drive accounts, and connection credentials.
8. Children
Ranger is not a social or content platform specifically directed to children. Minors should use it with a parent or guardian’s consent and guidance and should not enter unnecessary personal information in notes, subtitles, or remote connection settings.
9. User Rights and Contact
Where permitted by applicable law, users may contact us about access, correction, deletion, processing, or withdrawal of authorization: qha@qq.com. We may verify a requester’s identity to protect accounts and data.
10. Policy Updates
We may update this policy when product features, third-party services, data flows, or legal requirements change. Updated versions will show a new effective date and version number. Significant changes may also be announced in the App or through another appropriate channel.
11. Governing Law
This policy is interpreted under the laws applicable at the operator’s location. Where applicable law provides stronger protection for users, that law controls.
